As I write this post, I am sipping coffee, stretching my neck that’s incredibly stiff, cracking my back and constantly fidgeting. I guess you could say I didn’t have the best sleep last night. Although I’m exhausted from the day, and from my awful sleep the night before, I just can’t rest. Immediately I begin tossing and turning, adjusting my pillows, kicking my feet out of the blankets. When I finally get reasonably comfortable, I start feeling a sharp pain in my hips and again need to readjust. Eventually I end up just passing out from my discomfort. Before I know it, my ears are pierced with the infamous “Radar” iPhone alarm and I ask myself how many shots of espresso I’ll add to my Venti dark roast this morning. If you say this doesn’t sound familiar to you… you’re lying.
It wasn’t until my emotional and physical well being was compromised that I realized how much of an impact sleep has on our health. My crankiness, stiffness, and my work were all being affected by my sleep, or lack thereof. It’s time for me to stop ignoring this problem and get to the root of it, looking at how and when I’m sleeping and what I’m sleeping on.
How I typically feel about sleep
How I’d like to feel about sleep
While we know we need to sleep, sleep isn’t always treated with the importance it deserves. In our lifetimes, we will spend about 26 years asleep, and another 7 years trying to sleep. Would you spend 7 years trying to do anything? Especially trying to sleep, which is as important to your health as both diet and exercise.
Once you wake up to how sleep impacts your health, you’ll want to make an immediate change to your habits and, likely, your bedding choices.
Some things sleep has an effect on include…
- Rational Thinking
- Concentration
- Reflex’s
- Memory
- Weight
- Balance
- Mood
- Immune System
These are only a few examples. Not too mention the physical damage that discomfort and lack of sleep can have on your joints/muscles and the repercussions that can follow, including pricey doctor visits.
I’m going to continue to make a conscientious effort to improve my sleep, and you should as well. The first step in doing that is paying a visit to Kensington Furniture & Mattress and working with one of their Sleep Experts.
Unlike any other store, Kensingotn uses the DreamCatcher, a revolutionary machine designed to map your body’s pressure points so that both you and Kensington’s Sleep Experts know what kind of mattress is best for you. Your Sleep Experts can then fit you for a pillow that will align your spine and offer the right support for you based on your body composition, before guiding you to the mattress that will provide the most comfortable night’s sleep specifically for you and your body.
Once you sleep on with right mattress, with the right pillow, your life will change. You’ll wake up well rested, with energy to work more efficiently, and with less aches and pains than you thought possible.
Don’t believe me? Visit Kensington today and see for yourself that Sleep Matters.
