What’s better than a good room… a great room of course! Open concepts in a new home are not a new concept by any means, but we never grow tired of seeing them. Especially when an open concept can look this good! We are absolutely obsessed with the kitchen and lighting selections in this new home in Bettendorf, Iowa. This homeowner has styled the spaces and truly brought them all to the next level. Every corner and surface here looks Instagram-worthy! We plan to share a few blog posts of the many great spaces in this new home from Aspen Homes of the Quad Cities. Today let’s begin with this great room area that includes a stunning kitchen with cabinetry, counters, appliances, and lighting from Village Home Stores.
This kitchen design features multiple finishes and cabinet lines from Village Home Stores. Often, to achieve the desired finished look for a client, we will pull from many sources to get the look right. If you have shopped for “White” painted kitchen cabinets lately you know just as well as us that there is in fact a LOT of versions of a white painted cabinet out there. The Savannah door in “White” from our Koch Cabinetry line is a Village bestseller for a reason. Installed as the main cabinet in the design, we have accented it with two other finishes.
The perfect contrast to a white kitchen is a black accent of course. The same Savannah door style is used on the kitchen island in Koch’s painted “Black” finish. The perimeter and island cabinetry has been fit with lots of great storage inserts and upgraded to include soft-close drawers and doors. Oh, and please say hello to Jersey here showing off the new kitchen.
The wood range hood also comes from the Koch Cabinet factory in their painted “Black” finish. Wood range hoods can be ordered for your kitchen design from Village Home Stores in a variety of sizes and styles. We can even have them custom made and arrange to have them custom painted or finished to match your desired needs. Here we have fit the wood hood with a 500 CFM insert from our Broan line.
Open Concept Walk-in Kitchen Pantry
About that other accent finish, it’s in one of our favorite zones in this new home kitchen design: the pantry area. Many new homes now include a walk-in pantry. We often disguise the entrance with a set of false-front pantry doors. Not this time. No way no ma’am! This pantry looks so good why hide it?! In fact, it seems strange even labeling this a pantry when it is prettier than most high-end coffee bars. Here we installed base cabinetry in the same Savannah “White” Koch cabinets and added White Oak floating shelves from our Wynnbrooke Cabinet line in a “Sand” stain. The White Oak shelving against a white subway tile wall is perfection! Imagine styling these open shelves throughout the seasons.
It takes a lot of small appliances to truly use most kitchens these days. From coffeepots to blenders, and everything in between. Some things get used often enough to be left out for access. A space like this is perfect for a kitchen design. It provides lots of added counter space and outlets for these small appliances and leaves them just steps away from the main kitchen. We even included a microwave drawer and glass-front under counter beverage fridge, both from our KitchenAid line. Just imagine this area set up as a beverage station when entertaining.
Any busy household is going to need as much pantry space as possible. And I think we can all agree not everything needs to be displayed on floating shelves. So, we did still include a large double-door pantry cabinet in the kitchen work zone. This pantry is adjacent to the refrigerator and has available counter landing space to the right and behind the user at the island. We included slide out shelves to help keep dry goods organized and easy to access. The refrigerator in this Quad Cities kitchen is a great design from our KitchenAid line (and it’s in stock right now while supplies last). We call this a “5-door” model that has a French door fresh food storage area above, two refrigerated drawers at the center, and a large 3-tier freezer drawer below. The two center refrigerator drawers come with soft-close guides and offer optimized storage options. The left drawer has 5 preset temperatures: meat/fish, greens/herbs, drinks, deli/cheese, and even a thaw/marinate setting. The right drawer includes produce preserver tech to make it ideal for fresh produce storage.
Speaking of drawers, let’s revisit the coffee bar pantry again. Here we included a built in KitchenAid microwave drawer. This model opens easily with just one touch, and you can load and unload from above. Microwave drawers can be a safe and easy microwave style for both children and age-in-place customers to use. Loading and unloading hot items from an over-the-range style microwave can be difficult and dangerous for some.
The focal point of the kitchen design is the contrasting black wood range hood and large commercial-style range below it. Easily spotted from across the room in the living room and even out on the covered patio, this accent piece is great. Black is such a powerful neutral finish in home interiors. It can carry such a bold impact when used right. We love how the large hood stands out and balances the black painted kitchen island right in front of it.
A Dual Fuel Range? What’s That!?
The 36” wide commercial style KitchenAid range in this Bettendorf kitchen is a “Dual Fuel” model. What does that mean? Dual fuel models give you the ability to pull from gas as your cooktop fuel source, and electric for the ovens. Why would you want this mix? Because gas allows the user immediate temperature control for the cooktop. Electric heat in an oven cavity is overall more consistent and helps provide more evenly cooked results. Not sure what style of cooking is right for your needs? The expert appliance team at Village Home Stores can help to answer any questions you have about gas, electric, induction, convection, air fry, and dual fuel features on our available ranges.
The countertop surfaces in this new home are all from our MSI quartz line. The kitchen uses our best-selling “Calacatta Laza” quartz design. This quartz is a gorgeous surface choice for a kitchen and once installed, it is virtually maintenance-free. It is resistant to heat, scratches, and staining. The kitchen sink of this design uses a farm style apron sink and is located in the kitchen island at the center of the work triangle.
Gather “Round” The Dining Table
We also much take the time to step back and admire again how stunning this entire space is. The kitchen is just steps from the living room and a dining area divides the kitchen from the outdoor living room. We are loving the trend of seeing round dining tables in so many dining rooms we work on. Selecting the right lighting above a round table can be tricky for some. Not for our team though. This round light is a perfect choice!
The “Jude” 9-light chandelier from our Capital Lighting line is a double drum shade style in a unique finish named “Mystic Luster”. This finish is breathtaking in person and compliments many metal finishes if you are looking to mix metals in your design. Shop the entire Jude series here in our online lighting catalog. If you love this drum shade light, stop by the Village Home Stores showroom at 105 S State in downtown Geneseo, Illinois to see this Mystic Luster finish in person!
The outdoor covered deck off the dining space is really another living room many months out of the year. We included a wet-rated ceiling fan named “Maverick” here. This is a 60” fan in a matte black finish from our Monte Carlo line. What a stunning group of spaces. All within steps of each other. We can’t wait to share more blog features from this new home in Bettendorf Iowa. Peek at some of the lighting we have been sharing to our Instagram and TikTok pages. Expect to see this home also featured on an upcoming episode of the Village Home Show as well airing on WQAD and streaming on YouTube soon.
